5 Skills to become successful in law

Students considering careers in Law will require more than good marks and networking to have a successful career. Following are some of the essential tips for students who are planning to make law as a career.

1. Reading and Writing Skills

Law involves extensive research to develop cases and frame arguments. Students must possess the necessary skills to go through extensive volumes of legal documents that may include cases, statutes and judicial law.

Students should have mastered the English language or regional language, if applicable. Good grammar is essential when drafting documents that range from complex legal transcripts to writing simple memoranda. Your writing should be articulate, persuasive and organised.

2. Communication

Students taking up careers in Law should have excellent communication skills. Students should be able to convey their thoughts in a persuasive manner in a concise and logical way both within the organisation and also to clients.

Communication involves face-to-face interaction, emails as well as telephonic conversations.

3. Knowledge of the Law

All professions involving Law require a thorough understanding of the basic concepts. Those undertaking a career in Law must be familiar with the terminology and changes in rules/statutes.

4. Teamwork
