Today beauty care has become a priority starting from the fashion industry, scientists, trainers, engineers and right up to the local residents. In order to be a good beautician, few personal qualities are required like a pleasing, well-groomed personality, gentleness, dexterity, an eye for fashion, readiness to work with your hands, loads of stamina and a strong back (you may have to stand for long hours at a stretch), good communication skills, rapport building and an eye for detail.

In addition the beautician also needs to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. There is no eligibility criterion as such, if the course is to be done from a small local institute or from a beauty parlour. For the government and certified institutes offering a beautician course, the minimum eligibility is being a class 12 passout. Following are some of the facts about the beautican field:

MYTHS	FACTS
It is open only for those students who are not good in academics	Academics have nothing to do with the course. It’s all about personal choice and interest. In fact one can pursue this course along with full time studies.
Only females can pursue this course	Misconception. This course is open for both men and women. In fact today, men do work for branded salons like Lakme, Jawed Habib, VLCC and L’Oreal and so on. Being a beautician is no more a female oriented field.
It is not a highly paid field	It’s not true. People mint money and also set up their business/salons in this field.
It doesn’t require much skill to be a beautician	Beautician is a skill oriented field. It requires delicacy, creativity, imagination, patience and so on.
It is not a dignified profession	Beautician is an art. It’s not everybody’s cup of tea.
