Law is a field that can pay very well depending upon what company you are working for and how good you are. Here a lawyer based in Mumbai, Abhishek Dadoo, tells us about how much money to expect.
What are the starting salaries in this field like?
Abhishek Dadoo: The starting salary for a lawyer depends on whether the lawyer chooses litigation or corporate law. While litigation pays less in the beginning, salaries usually ranging between two to three lacs per annum, the potential earnings in later years in far greater where a successful litigator may charge several lacs for a single hearing. The starting salaries on the corporate side vary with the firm, with top tier firms usually offering salaries ranging between ten to twelve lacs per annum as fixed pay and the lawyers are also entitled to a performance based bonus which depends, as the name suggests, on the lawyers performance during the year).
Abhishek Dadoo graduated from the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata and currently works with a reputed law firm in Mumbai as a financing and corporate lawyer.
