Film making is a creative process. A film maker has to be involved from beginning of a movie. This starts from getting the producers to finance the film, writing the script, choosing the actors, directing and post production.
As far as India is concerned, film making has a lot of potential. In the land of Bollywood, hundreds of films are produced every year. Then there is also regional cinema.
Training is essential for a film maker, as creativity is in one place and technicality another.
In order to be well versed in the technicality of film making, one needs to do a course taught in some of the premier film making institutes of India.
For all those enthusiastic film makers out there, a good way to start off is by making good use of that handy cam which has been lying idle in your bedroom.
Pick a topic on which you feel a story needs to be told and shoot a film on it-this is a good way of starting off.
Some of the institutions in India offering courses in film making are:
1) Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune
2) Delhi Film Institute, Delhi
3) Zee Institute of Media Arts (ZIMA), Mumbai
4) SRM Sivaji Ganesan Film Institute
5) Asian Academy of Film and TV
