The institution is the first self-financing college to be established by the Government of Kerala under the aegis of the Institute of Human Resource Development for Electronics, IHRDE (now IHRD) and the first to be affiliated to CUSAT (Cochin University of Science And Technology). The college has witnessed record breaking placements channelled through dynamic corporate scenarios. MEC was featured the 28th among the top 50 Government Engineering Colleges in India.
College Achievements MEC was ranked 47th among the top 75 government and private engineering colleges in India by Outlook magazine in association with MDRA in 2010. MINT, the business daily of Hindustan Times in collaboration with Wall Street Journal featured MEC as the 28th best in the country among the top 50 government engineering colleges in the country. All the courses offered by the college have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. MEC was ranked 4th best in terms of industrial interaction in the country by MINT. It is the first college in Kerala to have Microsoft student partners.
MEC has been able to secure funding from TEQIP, a World Bank initiative, for an amount of RS. 10 crores. MEC has been host to a lecture by Richard Stallman, a pioneer in open source software, in 2001. It is the first engineering college in India to have hosted TEDx, an independently organized TED event. MEC Chapter of Young Indians was recognized as the 2nd best Yi NET in India at the Yi summit held at Hyderabad in February 2009. Mec is the first college to be recognized as a research centre under CUSAT.
