Advances in digital photography and a demand for stock photography have brought about changes in photography. While this is good news in terms of opportunity, it also means that competition is intense especially as cameras on mobile phones get better.
What can you, as a student of photography, do to get ahead? We list three tips:
Become a certified photographer
Learn the techniques and basics from a good institute. This not only gives you exposure to the types of photography available, but also gives you an understanding of techniques from lighting to working with models. Courses range from 45 days to 12 months.
Tip: Put together a good portfolio during your course
Personality matters
You may be a good photographer, but having good networking skills and charisma pays off when you are working with clients. It is important for a photographer to be able to establish a rapport with clients and make them feel comfortable.
Tip: A client is more likely to hire you again if they have a rapport with you.
See the big picture
Photography is a skill. You have to have an eye to turn the ordinary to extraordinary and be able to judge what is important and what is not.
This is what differentiates an average photographer from an outstanding one.
