Delhi University: No 100% cut-off debacle

Delhi University officials reassured students that last year's 100 percent cut-off debacle will not happen again.

"Although the cut-off is expected to rise again due to the students' performance in the board exams, I can assure the students that it won't go to 100 percent this year," the university's Dean for Student Welfare, J.M. Khurana told IANS.

Although Khurana denied that the university had set any guidelines for the colleges to determine cut-offs, he remained confident that the cut-off would not touch 100 percent this time.

The first cut-off list will be out on June 26. Last year, in its first cut-off list, Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) fixed the cut-off for its B.Com (Honours) course at 100 percent for non-commerce aspirants

Despite the reassurances, the student community is waiting with bated breath.

"I have filled up the forms, but last year's 100 percent cut-off at Shri Ram College of Commerce still puts a question mark on the chances of getting the admission," Keshav, a commerce aspirant told IANS.

His sentiments were echoed by many others who stood in the long queues at the north campus's Art Faculty to submit admission forms Monday, the last day for submission.

And even if the cut-off doesn't go to 100 percent this year, with the increased number of students scoring above 95 percent in the Boards, the cut-off is bound to rise.

"I have applied but, honestly, with 86 percent marks, I guess I will have to drop a year and prepare for some competitive exam next year," said Pooja, a science student.
