The HRD ministry will soon write to the IIT joint admission board to prepare the protocols for conducting the proposed common entrance test for admission to engineering.
According to sources HRD ministry will ask the joint admission boards to finalise the protocols to implement the test from 2013 onwards.
The new entrance test would take the 12th board results into consideration for preparing the merit list.
IIT faculty and the alumni have been continuously opposing the move as the proposed common entrance test is said to undermine the autonomy enjoyed by the IITs.
IIT Delhi senate is on the verge of following IIT Kanpur by deciding to hold its own entrance test to reject the new system. IIT-Kanpur had opposed the plan of Human Resource Development minister Kapil Sibal and sought the direct intervention of Prime Minister to settle the issue.

Comments:
It not possible to give NEET in English or Hindi medium when we studied in Gujarati medium sence birth. Please think for rural pupil.
Since IIT is not willing to discard their selection process, We can think of selecting candidates for Govt collages from JEE conducted by the IIT every year, instead of conducting AIEEE / NEET by CBSC. So No AIEEE only one test at all India level IIT JEE for all !!
