IIM-A: Alumnus status for three-week course

The Institute of Indian Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has stated that candidates opting for short-term courses can now be officially called alumnus.

IIM-A will charge Rs 10,000 for alumni status in addition to fees for short-term courses. The decision was announced on April 1,2012 stated that candidates have enrolled in the short to medium length programs in the past will also have to pay the fees to be considered as alumni.

Short to medium length courses at IIM-A include AFP, MEP, MDP among others. The Rs 10,000 fee is compulsory for all future students. This is a one-time fee.

The MDP course is a 10-day course that costs almost Rs 5 lakh. It also brings in around 67 percent of IIM-Ahmedabad’s revenue.

A statement from IIM-A, however, stated: Participants of customised MDPs will not be eligible for any alumni status, as is the current practice”.

Alumni from other courses, however, felt that three weeks at IIM-A was too short a time to be considered as alumni.
