IIM Calcutta: Admission easier for non-engineering students

Premier B-school IIM Calcutta is taking steps to ensure that students of other streams get admission to management institutes.
IIM Calcutta has decided to give two marks extra to students from a non-engineering background.
According to the officials, IIM Calcutta are looking for students from diverse backgrounds. The B-school is also looking for students from various fields such as humanities to get a wider perspective.
The IIM is looking for students who have keen interest and knowledge of business, economics, politics and social developments.
The institute will also give extra marks to women candidates.
The institute is also looking forward to balance out the gender ratio and have students with additional skills and knowledge.

@ Krishna: I don't see your point. A lot of countries have a single entrance exam. If you are that bright, it should not matter. There is no conspiracy against engineers. The only thing that Sibal is doing is to make sure that bright students get into IITs. There is nothing wrong in this. I think it is great that IIM is diversifying its student body.
@ Krishna Kapil Sibal has actually made the admissions tougher. It is really good that IIM-C has taken the initiative to give extra marks to deserving students. I don't think it is a conspiracy against engineers.
First of all, Mr Sibal creates all these problems about JEE and then IIM is making things difficult for non-engineers. Is there a conspiracy against engineers? I think that the new rule of giving extra marks will bring down the standard of education. Entrance into IIMs should be on the marks scored and not based on the stream you are from.
