Students from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) may be the first students from India to design and race a Formula-1 car in the United Kingdom.
A group of 30 students from IIT-B will run the self-designed electric car at Formula Society of Automative Engineers (FSAE) competition to be held in United Kingdom in July 2012.
The car, yet to be named, will compete against 109 cars at the 22-km race at Silverstone Formula-1 racing track.
According to reports, IIT-B car will weigh around 300 kg and will be able to run at the maximum speed of 115 kmph. At FSAE, the car will be tested on three parameters — maneuverability, acceleration and endurance.
The car is expected to be ready by the end of April. Reports reveal that the cost of IIT-B car is Rs 16 lakh.
Students plan to unveil the car by the end of April in front of formula racing celebrities.
