IIT: Class 12 results will not be accepted

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will not be accepting Class 12 board results as part of the admission process in 2013.

The decision not to accept Class 12 results came after faculty members at the IITs stated that giving 40 percent weightage to Class 12 exams could mean that weaker students would gain admission to the IITs.

Faculty at IIT Bombay had also pointed out that there were too many exam boards in India. Each of these boards had different standards for Class 12. Students sitting for boards which were tougher would be unfairly penalized in the process.

IIT faculty had earlier met Kapil Sibal and stated that they needed more time to discuss the implications of a single entrance exam for IITs.

It remains unclear whether a Joint Entrance Exam replacing IIT JEE will be implemented in 2013.

The next meeting between IIT directors, faculty members and the HRD Ministry is expected to take place in June.

Do you agree with IIT faculty's decision not to consider Class 12 board marks?

Its an right decision atken by IITs faculty members, i feel the overall performance of a student from std 5th to till std 12th to be consider.

I fully agree with the IIT faculty's decision of not considering class 12 board results...even if it is introduced, the student should be given adequate time for getting acquainted with the new system...a student, who is supposed to appear the IITJEE in 2013, is left with only 10 months...such decision may ruin his career...

yes i always agree with that because unfortunately at the time of board examination the excellent student also get low marks therefore because of that criteria they unable to get admission in the top class engineering college like IIT

no this is unfair for the student who are 12th pass

ASHISHASHISH KUMAR(Posted 1 Year Ago)

This thing reduce the value of iit and then the student who which are not elligible for iit's get addmisson in iit and also this is wrong for the student who are 12th pass they have no idea about this so i requested heartly if you want to apply this scheme then told the student about 3 years before.

Decision for having a common single exam for both iit aieee is no way be suitable. Giving 40% weitage of class 12th marks will surely crop up the discrepancies in fixing the entrance of students in institutes like iit. HRD ministry should seriously deliberate upon it and respect the consensus of the iit professor in this regard. Regards.

Yes I fully agree with the decision of IIT faculty. Including 10 2 marks or weight age will lead to the entry of non-deserving students to IIT.
