IIT- JEE 2013: Kapil Sibal skips IIT council meetEditorial Team730|2Last Updated:04:21 pm, June 27, 2012
HRD Minister Kapil Sibal skipped the meeting with the IIT Council to resolve the common entrance exam controversy.
Kapil Sibal is likely to address a press conference at 5:30 pm on the common entrance exam.
It had been earlier decided that main exam be entirely conducted and set by CBSE. The top 1.5 lakh students from this exam will then take the advanced exam.
The proposal to have a common entrance has been resisted by IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur. IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur have decided to conduct their own exam.
The directors of Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) had earlier come up with a proposal to get the top 20-30 students based on the percentile ranking of respective boards for preparing the merit list.
According to reports, the percentile criterion replacing the proposed format of giving weightage to board results was planned at the Joint Admission Board meeting which was attended by the IIT directors.
