IIT Madras: Open door policy in hostels

The moral policing bug has now bitten Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) as they have issued an ‘open door’ policy to the students.

The diktat that has been issued says that on ‘Hostel Night’ if guests come to a students’ hostel room, the students should keep their doors open till the time the guests leave.

Hostel Night is an annual custom at all the IITs that allows guests to visit a student’s hostel room and make merry. The ‘guests’ can be of the opposite sex as well.

Students are obviously not too happy with this ruling and had protested against this rule.

To come out with an amicable solution, the authorities at IIT-M called for a general body meeting recently.

At the meeting, the authorities pushed their point forward that the doors of the hostel rooms should remain open and the guests should leave by 10.30 pm.
