PayPal has hired 80 graduates from the Indian Institutes of Technology. It is one of the largest number of hires by a multinational product company from the IITs.
PayPal will approximately pay Rs 7 lakh a year. The new recruits will apparently be focusing on product development and are currently in an eight-week ‘boot' camp with 12/14-hour daily training.
The US-based company has around 2,250 employees in its Chennai centre. Paypal according to a report wants to hire 900 people before the first quarter of next year. Paypal will be opening a new centre with about 1,000 employees in Bangalore.
PayPal is mainly a global e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet. Online money transfers serve as electronic alternatives to paying with traditional paper methods, such as checks and money orders.
In 2002, PayPal became a wholly owned subsidiary of eBay.
