IITs disapproval hinders common entrance test

Six out of seven IIT senates are against the common engineering entrance test making it difficult for the Kabil Sibal ministry to launch the test in 2013.
This disapproval was conveyed to the HRD ministry recently during a meeting with the IIT directors. Also, nothing has been discussed regarding conducting the test in 2014.
With this situation, Kapil Sibal and the HRD ministry are left with two options for the implementation of a single entrance test. One of which is launching the test in 2013 excluding the IITs. The test if conducted in 2013 will only provide admission to NITs, IIITs and few deemed university. And it will include IITs from 2014.
Second option is to launch the test in 2014. Kapil Sibal recently clarified that it might be difficult launching the test in 2014 as a change of power at the centre in 2014 might not augur well for the future of the test.
A final decision on this matter will only be taken on May 28 in a meeting of IITs, NITs and the government.
