NIT to be set up in Uttarakhand

National Institute of Technology (NIT) would soon be set up in Sumari area of Pauri district.
The residents have been on a dharna for the last 90 days over their demand of setting up an NIT in Sumari. The appropriate land will soon be identified for the purpose according to government sources.
Centre has provided its approval in principle and Rs 100 crore have already been sanctioned for the purpose. The Chief Minister said Commissioner of Garhwal and the Pauri District Magistrate have been asked to identify land for setting up the institute.
National Institute of Technology, Sumari-Srinagar is one among the ten newly sanctioned NITS by the Government of India in 2009 under the 11th Five-year Plan. The temporary campus of the Institute has been established in Government Polytechnic Srinagar.
NITs will also be set up in Sikkim and Nagaland.
