IIT-JEE 2014: Students confused over top 20 percentile rule

Students preparing for JEE 2014 may have to wait until September 15 to find out whether the top 20 percentile rule for boards will be applicable.

JEE is the entrance exam students need to sit for to get into the Indian Institutes of Technology as well as the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. Other institutes, such as the NITs, also accept JEE.

The IITs had stated that only students who were in the top 20 percentile of their board would be able to sit for JEE. This had led to controversy as some boards are perceived to be more difficult than others.

The IIT Council has not stated whether students who have passed their JEE (Advanced) will also need to be in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards.

A meeting among the Joint Admission Board of IITs was held on August 25. There was no official statement made regarding the top 20 percentile rule.

The next meeting will be held on September 15 at Kharagpur. It is expected that the top 20 percentile rule will be discussed at this meeting.

Any decision made by the Joint Admission Board will have to be approved by the IIT Council.

Yeah, even I personally feel so
this 20 percentile system should not be implemented
Already there is so much competitions among today's generation, it is exhausting.
And everything is now on the crucial stage, so there is a need to have a smooth way.
Life is turning to a absurd.
It is pressurising students, so much of load, disturbing the stability of our brain.
Rule of universe is to make everything stable, and everything is happening against the laws of universe or nature.
So, now decision will be your's only, we did our deed..it's your turn now "respected people".
