It's a myth. Teaching involves lot of struggle and hard work especially for a primary or secondary school teacher. But the jobs at college or university level are better and safer as compared to school teaching job. The saddest part is even today, it's not considered as a dignified profession but in reality it's not.

It depends upon which university/college you are working as a teacher. Some colleges or universities takes time for increment while some doesn't for appraisal or increment. Teaching is not a easy job. One need to keep updates about research, articles and so on.

If you have a PhD degree then it does help you to fetch good amount of money. But it also depends upon the university norms. It's a very good profession. Go for it!!
